The fifht session of the film history workshop curated by Marco Luceri (admission restricted to registered participants only). An exciting journey through the period that defined the language of modern cinema, from the dawn of the Hollywood industry to the end of the studios’ golden age. The workshop will explore the evolution of American cinema between 1910 and 1960, analysing filmmakers, genres, technical innovations and cultural transformations that have shaped the history of the seventh art. From the pioneers of silent film to the advent of sound, from the system of major production companies to stardom, right through to the masterpieces of directors such as John Ford, Howard Hawks, Billy Wilder, Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Welles, the sessions will provide the tools to understand the historical, aesthetic and production context of a unique era. Through the screening and analysis of iconic film sequences, participants will discover how classic American cinema established narrative, visual and cultural models that remain fundamental to this day.
