"Affondare con stile" by EMALLORU
Tuesday 7/04 - ore 18:00

At Giunti Odeon, we will present Affondare con stile (Mondadori), in which Emalloru, the author, tells, through a gripping and entertaining story, of a young man’s irrepressible desire to live a free life, without anesthesia: to set sail, to be shipwrecked, to lose his way, yet always begin again. To chase the horizon even when the wind blows against him and the bilge fills with water. Because waiting until you are ready is the best way never to leave at all.

Also joining him on stage will be the florentine influencer Wikipedro!

The book:

Enea, the protagonist of this novel, is not the kind of person who counts to ten before deciding to do something. And yet, in all his chaos, he is someone who never pretends, throwing himself headlong into life without a parachute. Enea is the sort of person who does not know how to sail but buys a beat-up sailboat to sail around the world. Someone who has spent his whole life wanting to stop in a safe harbor, in a place to call home, yet keeps leaving. Someone who mistakes impulsiveness for courage, the horizon for a promise, and the sea for a mirror in which to look at himself until it hurts. Enea is like his feathered travel companion, Piccione, who throws himself into flight before even learning how to use his wings. But this instinct to leap, even at the risk of crashing, gives him the privilege of crossing paths on his journey toward the Atlantic with many other crooked, broken, yet real lives, just like his own. There is Tonno, a professional boat-sinker for hire. There is Viktor, a Bulgarian apostle of terror pedagogy, who teaches you how to mend sails and your soul through humiliation and the Mistral wind. There is Sasà, a widower and sailor, who understood too late that boats grow old only when they remain still. There is Celine, who looks like that safe harbor one would never want to leave. And then there is the sea, which does not care at all about your dreams, yet still teaches you something, often while you are about to sink.

The author:

Emalloru, the pen name of Emanuele Malloru, is a director and writer. Through his solo sea expeditions, he has made travel and extreme exploration the core of his expressive research. For several years now, in the videos he publishes on his social channels, he has recounted with irony, sensitivity, and originality the journeys and the stories of the people, ordinary and otherwise, whom he meets every day. This is his first novel.
