Ruben no longer attends school; he has been confined to his room for weeks, immersed in his computer. He has been diagnosed with hikikomori syndrome, a condition affecting those who voluntarily withdraw into solitude and social isolation, often seeking refuge in the virtual world. Mario, a former basketball star who was forced to radically change his life after a nervous breakdown, is Ruben’s only contact with the outside world.
The author:
Tommaso Randazzo holds degrees in Literature, with a specialization in Music and Performing Arts, and in Social Education Sciences.
He has worked in various social services, specializing in teaching Italian to migrants. He has conducted creative writing, social theater, and musical animation workshops and seminars within the Education Sciences degree programs at the University of Florence. He has published 40 Days in Floripa: A Creative Diary of an Italian Educator in Brazil (ETS, 2014), Educators, Captains, Superheroes with Andrea Mannucci (Aracne, 2015), and the novel Urban Zoology (Sensibili alle foglie, 2022).
