In a village near Grenoble, Madame Odile Jouve, who runs the tennis club, introduces Mathilde and Bernard. Philippe, an air traffic controller, and his wife Mathilde move into a house opposite that of Bernard Coudray, his wife Arlette and their son Thomas. Mathilde and Bernard had fallen in passionate love eight years earlier and now pretend not to know each other. It was she who wanted to break off their relationship, but now they are both faced with a feeling that re-explodes, giving rise to a chain of events that also involve each other's families.
