One of the greatest masterpieces of sci-fi cinema returns to the big screen at Giunti Odeon: an absolute cult classic directed by Steven Spielberg. In his fifth film, the great American director created his first truly Spielbergian work, the story of a child's dream that comes true when you are too old to accept that it could be real. Yet it takes very little: the dazzling light through the keyhole, a fridge emptied by invisible forces, the screws of a ventilation grille that loosen by themselves; in short, the magic of cinema is enough to make it real. It is no coincidence that Richard Dreyfuss's Roy has to give up being an adult, upsetting the family balance, in order to accept the revelation of the existence of UFOs (and it is no coincidence that the word “revelation” already appears in the title of Spielberg's highly anticipated return to science fiction, Disclosure Day). Is Close Encounters of the Third Kind a film about faith? It is certainly a film about trusting others, even when there are many reasons to fear them. A beautiful dream to believe in, these days.
